For those that want a fully up to date and modern looking child carrier there is the Kangaroo Bike from Sweden. Carries two kids in a versatile front compartment. The reclining seats are adjustable for leg length, you can even turn them round so the little darlings are facing you. Because the whole front section moves as you steer it can feel a bit odd to ride at first, but you soon get used to it. The super sturdy rear frame allows you to use an additional child seat at the rear. We reccommend the Rhode Gear Limo or Taxi.
For those wanting a more traditional looking trike there's the Nihola - an economical load/child carrier from Denmark thats ideal for two toddlers to much older - you can even fit a baby carrier in the very front to enable it to carry three! This trike has the best steering of any load carrier available, and has won awards from Dutch consumer groups. And the Dutch know a thing or two about bikes that are easy to ride.
Moving away from Trikes and on-to Tandems, we have the Bike Friday Triplet from the US of A. This fantastic small wheeled tandem allows you to turn it from a three person tandem to a two person tandem simply by removing the middle section. Our Mechanic Angus has been using one with his two boys (3 and 5) for over 6 months now and they love it.
Also on two wheels is the Hase Pino, putting the 'passenger' at the front and in a recumbent position allows you to keep a good eye on them and makes conversation really easy. The same Pino will fit children from the age of 3 and adjusts really easily all the way to taking full sized adults.
There's plenty more ways to carry family members and friends at London Recumbents....Including the Trets trailer bike - a recumbent trailer trike, with two wheels at the back and even an option to turn it into a fully functioning Trike. The Trets Trike fits children from around 3 years of age up-to 9.
Following on from the Trets Trike is its big brother and inspiration, the Hase Ketwiesel. We also have in our hire fleet several trailers from Chariot in Canada - available to order, normally with only a 3 or 4 day wait.
As all of our bikes are used daily in our busy hire fleet we quickly find out which cope with the trampling of little feet, and stand the mark of time. The ones that fall apart we get rid of and wont reccommend. The selection you see above reflects this policy ;-)
Most of the Bikes and Trikes listed can be supplied to your door by 3-4 day courier, though some require a little more setting up to suit the riders, so we may encourage you to make a visit, we can still ship out to you afterwards.
